Mountain Ridge was the fulfillment of a vision of the one man – Stanley O. Steeves, a prominent local businessman. He decided to purchase 123 acres in the Magnetic Hill district and construct a course. Jimmy Johnstone, a highly regarded golf architect, was engaged to prepare plans for the course. Work commenced on the property November 5, 1964 and nine holes were opened for play in 19668. Play commenced on the present 18-hold layout in 1973.
